The Brazos River named by early Spanish Explorers "Rio de los Brazos de Dios” meaning "The River of the Arms of God".
The River was also made famous in the book “Goodbye to a River” by John Graves. In 1956 the River was being dammed up. In learning this Graves decided on planning one last canoeing adventure down the Brazos and the book is about that last voyage.
